May 2020 Newsletter
For all Hamlet Families,
As many of you may have heard, the Minister of Education and Premier announced this week that we will not be physically coming back to the school for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, instead we will continue to provide learning at home opportunities for all of our students. While we know that our students' health and safety is our first priority, this announcement leaves us all saddened that we will not have the opportunity to see our students in person for the remainder of the year.
Please know that this announcement does not change our commitment to you and your children. Our staff continue to work hard to keep our students engaged and connected. We will continue to offer a variety of opportunities for this connection. We recognize, now more than ever, that this human connection is one of the most important connections to maintain. We also recognize that families have been, and continue to juggle priorities in their own households. We want to thank you for your ongoing support as we navigate this new normal. If there is anything that we can do to help support you or your children, please let us know. We know that we are better together, and for that, we are grateful that you have been on this journey with us.
Now that we officially know about the end of the school year, we also wanted to let you know that discussions and plans are being made, as we speak, to ensure some of the following concerns are being addressed:
-Our School Board is working closely with the local Health Unit to create a plan for the retrieval of all student items in the school. We will communicate this plan as soon as we have this. We understand the frustration in not being able to get these items more quickly, but truly appreciate your patience as we wait on direction that will keep all of our families and staff safe.
-Our School Team is meeting to discuss how we will celebrate our Grade 6 students who will be moving on to Stratford Intermediate School next year. We will be doing something virtually to share in this special milestone before the end of the school year. Please stay tuned for more details as they come.
-Our School Team is meeting to discuss how we will welcome next year's Junior Kindergarten students as part of the springtime orientation. We know that we will not be able to have them physically in the school, but we hope to be able to provide them with some video tours and messages that will allow them to start to get familiar with our school.
- Our School Board, in coordination with school boards across the province, are in discussion about what the 2020-2021 school year will look like. We know that it will be different than our school openings in the past, but they will be provided direction from the province and the health professionals to ensure we can continue to keep the health and safety of our students and staff our top priority. We will provide details to you as we receive them.
I apologize for the length of this email, as well as the lack of definitive answers at this point. We will continue to keep you posted with new information as we get it. In the meantime, thank you for walking through this with our school team. We appreciate the wide variety of ways that you have balanced life with us. Thank you for doing your very best as a parent, as a home school supervisor, and all of the other hats that you are wearing right now. If there is anything that we can do for you, please feel free to reach out to myself or your child's teacher. Your children make our world a better place, so thank you for sharing them with us!
We will be in touch!
